Frequently Asked Questions
What is Elysian Reviews?
An independent, single-person mission to write high quality reviews across a range of genres, Elysian Reviews is the home for all my contemplations over the various games I play. Follow the Store Curator page here.
With an ever-expanding backlog, it was in part my hope that this curator would help to motivate me in working my way through all these (hopefully) great games I’ve not yet played.
In an age where opinions can too readily be bought, Elysian Reviews is committed highly to honesty and integrity. No terms will ever be accepted that restrict what can be put in a review – all of them, regardless of any compensation, will be my honest and unfiltered opinion. Any compensation received for reviews will be declared in the review itself.
I’m not above the occasional joke, pun, wordplay or double entendre in a review and try to keep them as light and readable as possible, while still being serious and informative enough to be useful. In the main, though, I try to keep the language family friendly as I can’t know the age of the potential viewer that might read it.
All my reviews have comments enabled, so feel free to ask questions or discuss the game/review with me. It is absolutely fine to disagree in our thoughts about the game – I only ask that all discussion is kept polite, and grounded around the subject of disagreement so that it never descends into drama and finger pointing.
At the moment, I don’t review DLC, but I may look to change this in the future.
Feel free to suggest games to me that I may have missed and with the allowance of both time and money, there’s a chance I might get around to playing and reviewing it!

Can I write for/join Elysian Reviews?
If you are interested in the idea, I wouldn’t mind you getting in touch. I am not looking for more writers as such, but if I feel like your reviews fit well with the group I’m happy to discuss the possibility. Use the contact form below and we can talk about it!
I must say in advance that it would be unpaid, but I would be happy to let you self-promote your own social media in the author profile beside your posts.
Are you named after...?
NO! I’m not named after Disco Elysium, or that 2013 film!
Elysian means ‘heavenly’ and refers to a interpretation of the afterlife in Greek mythology, and I really love the word. 🙂
I do say it wrong, though. It’s supposed to be like “eh-lee-shun” but I say “Eh-lee-see-un”. Most peple call me Ely for short, because 7 letters must be sooo hard to type. Ely is fine. 🙂
Can you review my game?
I can, yes, and I would be happy to provided the following conditions are met:
- The game fits with my interests and the ethos of this site/curator, Elysian Reviews.
- The game is on Steam.
- You provide me with a free key(s) to access all content you want me to review. I will disclose this fact in the review.
- You have no editorial control over the review; I write about the game honestly, or not at all. Or I’ll buy it myself and review it anyway.
If you are unsure whether or not I’d be interested I’m happy for you to reach out and ask. Use the contact form on this page.
I am busy with other projects in life and my availability will vary. If you need me to turn a review around quickly it’s best we speak first to agree a deadline and perhaps scope (e.g. reviewing a chapter instead of the entire game, or just a DLC, etc).
I’m actually really passionate about giving smaller developers, or really niche projects a chance to thrive in a market that feels too homogonised. If our ethics align, I’d be happy to help give you exposure, provided I was not required to compromise my own integrity. See the next FAQ for more on this.
